What Am I

What Am I? by JingYue Guan

What Am I is an animation that explores what is going on inside children who have been abandoned, including physical and psychological problems they have experienced in the course of their lives in Mainland China. This work was influenced by the Japanese animation A Silent Voice, that aimed to increase awareness of the experiences of orphans with different speech or hearing abilities.

The animation’s aesthetics was influenced by the animation Deathigner and its use of sound effects and colour to emphasize the narrative. What Am I increases awareness of children with different abilities, their social acceptance and their personal journeys.
