‘Together’ is a video installation that presents the duality of modern relationships and investigates how conventions of communicating via digital technology often means that we are connected but disconnected, together but alone, social but lonely. This has created a new genre of communication where multitasking has become normalised and mundanity is a common feature of conversation - leaving us to question the sincerity of our relationships in this form.

‘Together’ draws on personal experiences and deals with concerns about the degradation of interpersonal bonds, which are often coupled with feelings of loneliness and reveals the loss of intimacy in present-day scenarios of communication. Critical discourse surrounding new technology and loneliness is an increasing cause of concern amongst users and commentators alike, and thus the techno-deterministic basis of the installation addresses significant socio-cultural anxieties.
