Timescape

Timescape

Mengyin Lee

The theme of my project is ‘timescape’, it involves recording a location, demonstration of time being turned back in a montage, as well as the adoption of flashback style. In the series, each piece and strip are taken at a different time, to highlight the intricacy of how time moves, how things move, and how people move, travelling in the same space with others, though at a different time.

This theme is inspired by the Singaporean visual artist John Clang, as one of his portfolios of ‘time’ challenges the audience to think about: ‘there may be many time dimensions in this universe, and we may have ‘life’ that exists similarly on a different path, one minute before or after ours’. Thus, I was inspired to change the thinking about time the other way around, using the flashback style in photographs in order to show the turning back of time which allows the audience to imagine what if time is turned back, for example, which part of your life would you like to destroy or erase?
