THE POWER OF EMOTIONAL SHOPPING

Sinni Chang

Instead of calling herself a shopaholic, Ann Carver refers to her 30-year-old self as a spendaholic.

The Power of Emotional Shopping is a documentary broadcast based on the true story of a spendaholic, together with physiological research on mental health issues and debt. The idea of consumerism is one of the most powerful social issues within different communities. People share their shopping hauls through different mediums, TV shopping channels turn homes into shopping centres, stores advertise promotions unremittingly, media entertainments produce films or books on fashion… But when it comes to common discussions about shopping, its relationship with people’s mental wellbeing is a serious and overlooked concern for society.
