Shadow of the Cities

Kelly Tung Ka Yee

Light projection on white backgrounds showing the buildings in different cities is my chosen way to show how light can be presented in a visual way. This project will hopefully have a positive emotional impact on people as the audience is expected to smile when they see this light projection, the colours and lights and in addition some of the images may also fire up the audience’s emotions.

The project explores how people respond to lights and what emotions or feelings lights evoke in humans. The project aims to introduce various architectures that people are not that familiar with, and one of my inspirations is the Brighton Pride Festival when lights and different colours are projected on to the Royal Pavilion. This event made me interested in light projection and inspired me to conduct some research on the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama about the installations she did and hopefully her work has enriched my project.
