Ocean Stars

Yutong Jessie Zheng

Ocean Stars is a short animated film about the dangers of oil pollution on the sea. It is told via the narration of a sea otter recollecting his grandmother’s nightmare. The animation brings awareness to oil spills in the sea and the disastrous long-term consequences to its environment, the flora and fauna, and the subsequent deaths of many animals in the sea.

Oil spills are a major hazard to sea life in the ocean, often escaping the spotlight of the media focus. In 2017 alone, two large spills (>700 tonnes) and four medium spills (7-700 tonnes) were recorded (ITOPF, 2018). With a larger public awareness, this disaster could hopefully be prevented in the future.
