Misaligned

Misaligned is a short drama film following Alex, a 25 year-old nurse, and her girlfriend Natalie. Four years of a relationship and the strains of adulthood have taken their toll on the couple. Stuck within the bittersweet safety of their relationship, tensions rise as Natalie begins to spend increasing amounts of time with another woman. After months of suppressed feelings, Alex must either attempt to reconcile with Natalie or accept that they are too fundamentally different for a healthy relationship, and go her own way.

The falling-out-of-love narrative was inspired by films such as Blue Valentine, Like Crazy and Ordinary People and directors such as Sofia Coppola and Gus Van Sant. The film contemplates the anxieties that are felt by people approaching independent adulthood along with the alienation that this can bring. Being able to capture and express human emotion in film is a fundamental skill the team learned having primarily shot Documentary at Sussex University. The filmmakers of Misaligned were excited to transfer these skills to a new format, expressing themselves and their experiences through fiction.
