University of Sussex: BA Media Practice

Tom Connolly

As technology has advanced over recent years designed to transform our homes into ‘smart’ entities, we have seen that digitally mediated surveillance carried out by private corporations and businesses has not only been on the rise, but when questioned these same institutions have only offered empty apologies for these practices. This project encourages a discourse between the user and the installation surrounding how they use technology and, in turn, interact with the digital world.

Inspired by art installations by David Bouchard, Bruno Lessard and Pierre Tremblay on digital surveillance, ‘Mirrored’ presents a new stance as to how we as a society use and interact with technology. It also shines a light on the surveillance that is taking place within our homes.
