Urban Psycle

URBAN PSYCLE

Hon Lam Chan

Urban Psycle is a 6-minute long two-screen installation, that portrayal a critique on capitalism, combing the use of color with each emotion trying to create atmosphere of thoughts and imagery that emerges from our thoughts. Five total emotions each display a different outlet, which tries to demonstrate struggles. That commonly we tend to experience in urban cities around the world.  Presenting this endless cycle that one would experience in metropolitan cities, through globalization from different cities.

The work is influenced by the experience of living in the UK of the pervious four years, as well as the growing up in Hong Kong which is heavily build upon individualism and struggle to find its identity. Some of the artist that inspired the work including, Robert Rauschenberg layering of silk screen printing, Dominic Byrne installations that involve multiple screens and interactive technology, As well as music especially, Hip Hop that particularly focus on sampling technique. As many of the original film are free stock footage found online. These all contributes to the work, many more artist are inspired this project, above are just a few mentions.
