Flamenco for Gentlemen

Flamenco for Gentlemen by Ani Mitrofanova

Flamenco for a Gentleman is a short satirical animation that follows the story of a wealthy, pompous and selfish man who goes through a life-threatening adventure, which challenges him to re-think his life values and to learn his lesson the hard way. The subject directly addresses individual attitudes within classism and the social hierarchy and injustice it creates.

The story is told through pantomime and characterisation, creating a bond between the viewer and characters, only relying on their actions and charm. The visuals in this film do not necessarily allude to a known time period or location; however, they inevitably take the viewer somewhere back in time. The aesthetic is inspired by Ronald Searle and Luis Romero’s drawings and the narrative is influenced by Fabrice Joubert’s French Roast.
